J-.-lie* Industrial Relations Centegrs .;,L ine Chrysler Center 423-09-0 41T-05-: ASBESTOS WARNING B E L S FOR MOPAR PRODUCTS \ The majority of occupational health professionals concede that the existing body of scientific evidence addressing human exposure to asbestos indicates that long term exposure to asbestos fibers of a specific size range and in sufficient fncentration will result in an increased risk of respiratory fibrosis. Additionally these data indicate that asbestos exposure in concert with other environmental exposures, and in particular cigarette smoking, significantly increases the risk of respiratory cancer. The existing public sensitivity to issues of environmental hazards dictates that the Corporation exercise prudent manage ment and recognize its responsibility to the aftermarket consumers of Uopar products by providing appropriate warning labels on asbestos containing products. Labeling should be restricted to those products which have the potential of creating an asbestos dust hazard such as brake linings, clutch facings, transmission bands and heat resistant gaskets or seals. It is the recommendation of this department that the asbestos products identified above bear the following legend: CAUTION This product contains asbestos Avoid creating Dust Breathing asbestos dust may result in serious bodily harm The technical resources of this department are available to assist you in this area. ce: M.
