As usual, we hope you will make the necessary arrange ments to obtain the proper signatures and introduce the letter into the systen. Since the draft of this Practice has been reviewed with Mr. 'I. J. Faaheny and ( Mr. S. K. Frey, I would suggest that there is less need for detailed reviews by any of the activities being addressed. One prime exception is Mr. J. A. In such documented cases, the asbestos content must be reduced to the lowest possible level and all asbestos must be encapsulated or resin coated to avoid worker exposure to airborne fibers. With this, stated goal, it is,clear that a coordinated effort will be necessary between Company and supplier research to develop non-asbestos substitutes for friction, gasket and insulating materials. The results of such cooperative de velopment will be useful in allowing substitution for existing components con taining asbestos. This Practice Letter is effective immediately for all advance product designs on all passenger car and truck modela. Any deviations from this Practice must be reviewed by the appropriate Chief Product Engineer, the respective Car or Truck Chief Vehicle Engineer, and approved by the reapective Vice President - Car Engineering or Truck and Recreation Products Operations.
