Slosar Subject: Carcinogens Task Force Report to E&R and M&S Subcommittees As requested in your May 1, 1980 letter, Climate Control has reviewed the sub ject report and offers the following comments: . Consolidation of responsibility under one organization is desirable to pro vide a focal point for all communications dealing with carcinogenic material issues. . A preliminary survey of materials specifications controlling presently released climate control hardware for asbestos, benzene and chromium content showed one potentially major problem may exist with conversion coatings on all aluminum heat exchangers, specifically evaporators and condensers. We are conducting an investigation of possible replacement materials for all asbestos, benzene and chromium containing substances to establish cost and timing for incorporating substitutes into our products. . Review of the Generalized Workplan (Figure 20) shows twelve months for incorporating Group A actions; this may not be adequate in cases that require plant process/equipment changes. C. C.
