Activity Report - July 1969 Gasket Manufacture
August 6, 1969
1. Total scrsxAfrss surged upward from a June intake of 10,812,200 pieces to a Judy intake of 17, 747,900 PIECES.
The output was: June - 11,092,695 pieces July - 12,198, 75 7 pieces
2. Approximately twelve more help requisitions were
placed for direct labor in order to compensate for
THE ADDITIONAL WORK LOAD.
3. We continue to be plagued by vacations on all payrolls.
4. The "promotional pool" has started to deplete quite drastically. We have open requisitions for five "EX" AND TWO "B" PAYROLL POSITIONS. WE ARE HARD-PRESSED FOR INSIDE TALENT.
5. Racial problems have indicated to us that we could POSSIBLY BE BEADED FOR SERIOUS TROUBLE. EVIDENCE OF "discipline breakdown" has shown up and may easily BECOME WORSE IF THE RACIAL PERCENTAGE CONTINUES IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
6. A CONTACT WAS MADE BY A UAW SHOP ORGANIZER IN AN EFFORT TO ORGANIZE THE OFFICES. ORGANIZING INFOR MATION WAS TO HAVE BEEN PASSED OUT TO OFFICE PERSONNEL. AS OF THIS DATE, I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY.

Tool Engineering
A. Design Section
Work load in the design section has been typically light for the month of July. A backlog of 250 to 300 hours was main tained for the month even though we were short handed due to vacation schedules.
B. N/C Programing
Work load in the programing section has also dropped to 100 hours average for the month of July. We anticipate an in crease work load in this area after delivery of our Fosdick Tape Drill in August.
We have not yet received approval to purchase the requested APT software for our N/C mills.
New Tool Room - Dept. 260
Work load in this area remains at a very high level. GX samples and sample tooling comprises more than 70 percent of our entire work load. Vacation schedules will continue to hurt us in this area until mid September.
During the month of July our Cincinnati tool and cutter grinder went down. Our maintenance shop has torn the machine down and after contacting Cincinnati Machine Company is of the opinion that this equipment is beyond economical repair. The machine was purchased as rebuilt in 1945. Cincinnati estimates that this ma chine was built in the late 1930's. The machine is obsolete and parts are not available. I am waiting for a quotation on a re placement machine and feel that there are sufficient funds avail able in the master tool appropriation M-2030 to cover its replace ment. I will process an UFA as soon as the information is gathered.
Repair Tool Rooms
Work loads have been running fairly high requiring nine hour work days and a limited amount of work being repaired at outside sources.

Handmade - Dept. 229
Work loads continue to mount with our current registar indicating 3000 plus hours of load.
I am happy to report that on the breakdown for the month of July we were able to show the following:
$ 24,174.29 - cost of sales $ 93.209.50 - sales $ 964.79 - loss
J should also remind you that we supplied the Bussing gaskets at no charge ($ 450.00 approximate value).
General
We have completed negotiating the following price discounts with Matis Incorporated.
Pins and bushings Springs (die) Cutting tools Screws and dowels Flat stock - tool steel
less 10% 100 lot pp rice less 15% less 10% less 20%
We also receive a 2% discount if the invoice is paid within 10 days. All of these discounts should generate a substantial re duction in tool hardware.
