The job of eliminating the hazard at the Pure Oil Company plant vas an excellent one and certainly shows the hazardous errors which could be made by people not acquainted with the problem. Since reading about someone who held himself forth as our representa tive in Washington, I have had the managers of Thompsons various Divisions find out who could have contacted the Public Health Service. Our company has no representative there hut merely sales outlets through independent business men by whom our products are sold. District Sales Managers are located in Philadelphia and in Richmond, Virginia. Both of these men were contacted and neither of them had called at the Public Health Service. All of the independent sales outlets have been advised that Vitameter sales are limited to Columbus until the toxicity of Vitol can be determined. It is my guess that the proprietor of one of our Washington sales outlets checked up on us by making inquiries. As soon as we are able to contact all of them we will know who it vas and will advise them against attempting to speak for us. I hope you advised Dr. Townsend that you are the only one qualified to speak for us on such matters but if you did not under the circumstances you may wish to do so when an opportunity again presents itself. It certainly was fortunate that your call in Washington so closely followed the mis representation made. I certainly overlooked the large amount of analytical work required when I suggested a meeting the first week in November.
