Developed: 9/84 Revised: 1/87 Application: DPMC Complex Asbestos Brake Repair Work A. VACUUM PROCEDURE 1. Barricade around vehicle - Barricade Tape/Signs 2. Don protective clothing; cloth or paper coveralls, 1/2 mask cartridge respirator with high efficiency particulate filters. 3. Remove wheel from vehicle. 4. Attach brake encapsulation cylinder. Remove brake drum and brake pads. 5. Vacuum dust from within the encapsulation cylinder using the Nilfisk _ , asbestos vacuum cleaner. 6. Compressed air shall NOT BE USED at any time to remove dust from - . ------- brake-drums or pads. B. WET PROCEDURE 1. Just prior to working on a vehicle do the following things: a. Don respirator (1/2 mask cartridge respirator with high efficiency particulate filters). b. Wet inside brake drum from backside with water hose and remove brake drum and thoroughly wet entire brake assembly via water spray bottle if necessary. c. Continue spray wetting periodically throughout the brake shoe removal operation if necessary. d. Collect all water runoff in drip pan and dispose in designated sump. e. Properly dispose of used brake pads in labeled containers. C. EMPLOYEE TRAINING 1.
