Currently, we are conduct* ing field and laboratory Investigations on the translocation and environ mental control of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's). Enclosed is a copy of the abstract on half-life of PCB's in fish, a xerox of the slides to be used, a draft of Ms. Vitter's thesis on fish collected near your plant, a copy of your data being utilized (no lipid data was used in this study), and a copy of SFI internal review of our project. This assessment of your original and our subsequent data indicated even a greater drop In PCB's (Aroclor's 1254 and 1260) than had been reported to you before. The half-life of these stable PCB mixtures was in the less than 2h years Instead of the speculated 50 to 100 years. However, this half-life information cannot be published unless we receive permission from your company to use your data in our analysis. By permis sion to use your data Tulane hopes to give Monsanto some Invaluable infor mation on the effect of PCB's in the environment. 1 apologize to Monsanto for submitting this abstract without your approval but feel that the resulting observations will benefit both Tulane and Monsanto.
