The major source of ionic copper in the "Ponsol" Area is. the process for quinonyl, the key intermediate for "Ponsol" Golden Orange G. This reaction calls for 200 lb. of copper powder per charge. Laboratory tests indicate that the copper value can be recovered from process filtrate by treating the aqueous acid solution with iron to precipitate elemental copper. Practically speaking, the aqueous acid can be decanted from the quinony1-chlorate reaction emulsion and pumped to an available tank., T-77, for recovering the copper. A test authorization has been prepared. Pilots of recovered copper give standard yields of quinonyl, and we expect the recycle of precipitated copper to improve the reliability of this important process.
