Total paint, varnish, and lacquer sales increased 1355 over last year. All plants operated a full 40-hour week. It is estimated that the seed and oil stock will last until July 17. Messrs. Davis and Coolidge to re-chock the figures reported. To insure a supply of high iodine value 44 Circle to the plants, Mr. Coolidge to arrange to hold sufficient Argentina oil to mix with the low iodine domestic oil so as to keep the iodine value of 44 Circle at a minimum of 180. Tung Oil--Prices have hardened slightly. Current quotations 22. Used by all factories 1-3/4 tanks. 8896 - LOS ANGELES PLANT: It was decided to withhold the installation of thinner tanks and equipment until after September 1st. 8897 - H T S LEAD; Mr. Stevens estimated that providing the new equipment is delivered on time the plant will be in production on H T S Lead by August 1st. Old Dutch stack will be emptied somotime during August. Operations to be curtailed so as to insure an adequate supply of white lead to the plants for September and October operations. Cunningham reports that it is impractical to use black iron for small cans due to soldering difficulties. Copper plate is not satisfactory. Mr. Davis has arranged for shipment of tin plate after September 1, which will carry us through to approximately April 1, 1941. Mr. Coolidge to chock the need for the relatively large stock of tin plate usually carried at the can plant. S900 - SUP LABEL DIRECTIONS: The Sales Department suggested a specific sticker for the one and five gallon packages to diroct attention to the necessity of following label directions. The Board decided that this would bo inadvisable at the present time. 8901 - GOVERNMENT BUSINESS: It is anticipated that there will bo a large volume of paint business on the re armament program for sales both to governmental units and to private manufacturers handling government orders. Mainly this will be on United States specifications. Factories to arrange to handle this promptly as the placement of orders will bo conditioned largely by the ability of the manufacturer to give fast service. 8902 - ARSEKATE OF LEAD: Ponding receipt of more information from the Pacific northwest it was decided to continue with the current program of arsenate of calcium at Oakland.
