Dear PFAS WG members,
As you may know there is work ongoing under the Stockholm Convention to include Long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids, their salts and related compounds into the convention. In order to ensure proper risk evaluation of these substances it has been requested to provide socio-economic information, as defined under Annex F of the Convention (see the PDF file in the annex and the mail below for more information).
We would therefore like to ask you whether you have any information on long-chain PFCAs for the following topics: - Efficacy of risk reduction measures - Positive and/or negative impacts of risk measures - Waste and disposal implications - Access to information and public education - Regional control actions taken - ...
Please consult the Word document in the annex for the specific information requests. We would like to invite the members to provide any relevant information on these topics by 30/11 COB, after which we can compile the collected information and send it to the Secretariat.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions!
Kind regards,
DG Environment - Departement of Product Policy and Chemicals

Objet : Stockholm Convention: POPRC18 - Invitation for info on chlorpyrifos, chlorinated paraffins, long-chain PFCAs by
5 Dec 2022
Importance : Haute
Dear Sir, Dear Madam,
Please find attached the letter from the Executive Secretary of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions on the invitation for information following the decisions adopted by the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee at its eighteenth meeting (POPRC-18) held from 26 to 30 September 2022 in Rome.
The report of the meeting (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/11), including the decisions adopted by the Committee, workplan for the intersessional period and the composition of the intersessional working groups, as well as the adopted risk management evaluation for Dechlorane Plus (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/11/Add.1), risk management evaluations for UV328 (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/11/Add.2), risk profile for chlorinated paraffins (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/11/Add.3), risk profile for long-chain PFCAs, their salts and related compounds (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.18/11/Add.4) will be available on the Convention website: www.pops.int/poprc18.
The Committee invited Parties and observers to submit to the Secretariat following information:
(1) Additional information relating to adverse effects resulting from long-range transport of chlorpyrifos to revise the draft risk profile, before 5 December 2022
(2) Information on Annex F (socio-economic information) to prepare draft risk management evaluations, before 5 December 2022
a. Chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14-17 and chlorination levels at or exceeding 45 per cent chlorine by weight
b. Long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids, their salts and related compounds
It is critical for the Committee to receive as much information as possible from Parties and observers on time for POPRC-19, tentatively scheduled to take place 9-13 October 2023 in Rome. The draft risk profiles and the daft risk management evaluation documents to be considered at the meeting will be circulated for comments by Parties and observers during the intersessional period. Additional information on the chemicals under review could be provided during the commenting period as well.
Kind regards,
*This email is sent to the contact points of Parties and observers to the Stockholm Convention and POPRC-18 participants.
