J* Dear Dr. Nale: As indicated in Mr. Pomeroy1 s letter of March 23rd, subject company has requested us to supply them with information on the toxicity of materials that oould be extracted from the vinyl sheeting used for making wading pools. The two products used by the customer are VU-59l(0 and VU-5965. The formulations of these sheetings are as follows: VU-59l<0 VYNW D0P D-22 Calcium Stearate 63.5* 35.0 1.5 0.02 In the case of colored materials. some Deenax is also added. vo-5965 vmw D0P BCWL Stearic Acid Antimony Oxide 58.7* 38.0 2.0 0.3 1.0 The customer would like a statement from us that the sheetings will not cause dermatitis when in casual contact with the rfein of children using the pools as well as a statement from us regarding the toxicity of the water inside of the pool as a result of its extracting toxic ingredients from the compounds. We have, of course, not run extraction tests on these formulations. As you know, the volume of liquid to surface in a wading or swimming pool would be great. Because of the volume of water and the low solubility of most materials in water, we would anticipate that the concen tration of materials extracted would be so low as to be insignificant. The customer apparently believes the same thing but only wants our opinions in writing so that he will have them available in case same of his customers inquire In the matter. Accordingly, any general statement that you would . care to make for transmittal to 0. S Fiber A Plastics would be much appreci ated. EFBobertsontmmm T urs very truly.
