Dear Bob,
Thanks ever so much for your note of June 19 in which you detail your reasons for deciding not to write again to our friend, Dr. Clair Patterson. I could not do otherwise than agree with the logic and wisdom of the position you believe we should take in this matter.
I have been going around the country talking to the executives of our major customers on the whole matter of air pollution and in several of these discus sions the question was raised as to the validity of Dr. Patterson's statements. I hope that in due time he will see fit to take advantage of your offer to meet with you since I would be very interested in seeing whether he would be inclined to be open minded about the public health aspepts of lead in the atmosphere, or whether he is dedicated to the idea of unjustly harass ing industry.
Best regards.
