Within 30 days of this order, the ASLM and the ASWS (or the USGS, in partnership with the BLM and BOEM) shall submit to the Deputy Secretary a joint plan for updating current oil and natural gas resource assessments of Alaska's North Slope, focusing on federal lands including NPR-A and the Section 1002 area of the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. The plan shall include consideration of the acquisition of new geological and geophysical data based on recent new discoveries, as well as potential for reprocessing existing geological and geophysical data.

FYI
Kate MacGregor called a short time ago and asked questions about USGS role/mission for conducting assessments, and our relationship with BLM and BOEM in Alaska. She then said she was writing a secretarial order, and asked if she could send me a draft to edit. She sent the following message and I responded with attached Word file.
We also briefly discussed the North Slope tour - sounds like the logistics are complex and not entirely finalized, but they are coming together.

Dave, should we insert the words `technically recoverable' into our description of the resources? That sentence, in part, would read `assessments of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and natural gas resources.' That's the standard language that describes all of our assessments; we should probably be consistent.
Thanks for the heads-up... Walter

Yeah, I thought about that after sending. I will suggest the change.
