SPECIAL TESTING A. Resin Plant % I. Raw Material a. Sodium Laury1 Sulfate In search for an alternate supplier for this raw material, samples from Onyx Chemicals were evaluated. Neither of the 'two types tested showed viscosities satisfactory for our use. A request was made to Purchasing to have Onyx send us samples of sodium lauryl sulfate which falls into our viscosity specification range of 175-275 cps. COLORITE 013059 Page 2 "<i b. General Electric Antifoam AF-60 The vendor has advised us that AF-60 production will be disctoninued. The alleged substitute product is AF-93. Samples and data sheets were requested from Purchasing. The AF-93 will be subjected to an evalua tion program once samples are received. 2. In-Process a. Residual VCM in Slurries (Stripping Profile) The stripping profile program was continued throughout the report period. Resin types tested were T-10R and T-501, as well as T-315 and T-390. Stripper temperatures have been raised to 220F with one experiment run at 230F, While the slurry samples showed a decrease of about 130 ppm (350 ppm for 220F versus 220 ppm for 230F), the finished resin showed no dramatic change (^10 ppm for both stripping conditions'). b. VCM in Air Perimeter sampling was continued throughout the report period. While fence samples were not higher than 2 ppm, air samples taken close to the manufacturing buildings were as high as 8 ppm. The overall perimeter average is ppm. c. Styrene in Primary Effluent The primary effluent water showed a level of 10 ppm sty rene which was traced to styrene dumped during a routine changeover of styrene monomer in the hold tanks. 3, Finished Product a. Residual VCM in Resin * The Nixon bulk loads of T-10R resin showed a further de crease of the residual monomer levels. The high level found was 28 ppm with an average reading of 15 ppm. The previous month showed 42 ppm and 23 ppm respectively. B. Compound Plant 1. VCM Monitoring Personal monitoring was continued in the Compound Plant on a weekly basis. COLORXTE 013060 Page 3 C. Flemington Plant 1. Haze Analyses Four haze analyses were performed for the kesin Group. 2. Flemington Conversion In support of Process Engineering project #4600, a pH time study was performed to check for pH fluctuations of limetreated copolymer effluent water. The tests showed that the pH fluctuates between 6.3 to 6.9 during a 30-hour per iod. D. Fords Plant 1* Supercryl 100 Testing of this material was resumed. A total of 17 lots were analyzed. E. Miscellaneous 1. OSHA Visit An OSHA compliance officer visited the Burlington and Flem ington sites on June 10th through June 13th. Parallel samples were taken at both sites. While the Flem ington Plant has been revisited by OSHA to b informed that no high personal monitoring readings were found, Burlington has not received word from OSHA of the inspection outcome. 2. Personnel Mr. J, Lopez has joined Tenneco for the summer as the fourth man of the VCM monitoring crew. FW^/jst 3.
