Using the Century monitor leaks were found in the Vinyl sampling systems near the intake for points 1 and 2. The specific leaks we re shown to Chief Operator, Ron Fox, who will write work orders for the required repair. At point 1. where the vinyl reflux sample is taken, VCM was leaking through the u^per kwik-connect. (Shown on the attached crude drawing at G). This was y foot up wind from where the air sample is taken. Opening valve E to make the nitrogen eductor operational soon lowered VC readings to less than 0.5 ppm. Rather than replacing the kwik-connect, the solution appears to be to leave all valves in closed positions after finishing the sampling procedure. Closing valves A,B,C, and D stopped the leaks. At point 2 a 3/4 inch (size ? ) ball valve was frosted over from a leak around the stem just 3 inches from the air intake to the monitor. Also the tubing fittings to two \ inch valves in the vinyl sampling system were found to have small leaks. Recommendation: Make sure the valves in all vinyl sampling systems in the plant which correspond to valves A,B,C,D, and possibly also F, are left in the closed position after sampling. The two way valves B and C are closed to the kwik-connects when they are at the midpoint of their rotation. This will provide two closed valves in series from all sources of vinyl leading to the kwik-conneets. Homer L.
