This information was obtained from the manufacturers of the specific insulating materials and from Esso Engineering person nel familiar with materials of construction. 1. Thcnnobcstoa This material is manufactured by the Johns-Kanville Corporation in two locations. At the Manville, New Jersey plant the product contains approximately 10% chrysotlle asbestos fiber and 90% calcium silicate. At their Long Beach, California plant the product contains approximately 5% chrysotlle asbestos fiber, 3% amosite Asbestos fiber, and 90% calcium silicate. ' 2. 85% Magnesia This material, also known as magnesia pipe covering and block, is manufactured by Johns-Manville. It contains approximately 8% amosite asbestos fiber, 4% chrysotlle asbestos fiber, and 88% magnesium basic carbonate. 3. Rock Wool This material is made from slag and should contain no asbestos fibers. 4. Refractory Cement - A.P. Creen Co. KS-4 Based on its useful operating temperature of about 2400*? this product should not contain any asbestos. : r. . - 2- 5.
