ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL AND IMPROVEMENT
DISTRIBUTION:
PURPOSE
To regulate and/or improve the environment surrounding each employee's work place.
SCOPS
Includes all divisions, departments and subsidiaries of Tyler Pipe Industries.
POLICY
1. It is the policy of Tyler Pipe Industries to provide a safe and healthy environment for all its employees.
2. It is also the policy of the Company to make each person's work area as comfortable and convenient as is practical.
3. The minimum standards applying to this policy are those promulgated by the Department of Labor through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or those equivalent regula tions as adopted by state and local agencies.
PROCEDURE
To implement the Company's plan of adherence to its policy, an Environmental Committee, appointed by Management, will meet at monthly intervals to expedite the Company's efforts to realize the goals set by the policy. Two representatives from the Production Division and one each from the Transportation and Industrial Relations Division shall constitute a quorum for the purpose of handling the business of the Committee.
It is recognized that the prime responsibility for the provision of safe and healthy working area rests squarely upon the line supervision and it is the responsibility of the Environmental Committee to interpret the applicability of any and all regula tions and to work with the line supervision to abate any and all hazards.

The Environmental Committee shall be authorized to act with Management's approval upon its own motion to issue shop rules covering unsafe practices. This responsibility includes but is not limited to requirement of the use of specified protective equipment in any area wherein there is an agreement that such devices should be used. Compliance with the Committee's decisions is a condition of employment.
In the event of a disagreement among the Environmental Committee's membership on any issue, that issue will be referred by the chairman to the Environmental Executive Committee along with the reasoning of both sides for a decision.
Minutes of all committee meetings are to be taken and these passed to the Environmental Executive Committee, in order that the Environ mental Committee's activities be monitored by Management.
The substance of the Committee's agenda may make it necessary for other persons who are not regular members of the Environmental Committee to meet with the Committee when their advice or assistance would be helpful regarding issues which may arise in their area or areas in which they have special knowledge or information.
