:'cw York Tow 'Tori*.
Dear Van;
Today, Lob Aiiapton and I ran. several lead-4n-air tests on the Tour lengths of air line hose picked up from Carl Hitchcock, This will: supplement :rr/ previous ropoi't end confirm 1x7 tele phone tall: with you following the tests.
1. Lb took a sample of air through one length of the hose, using Tob*s blower and it showed between 10 and IT rdcrograas* U then ' -1 washed the hose with cold, water. .1 first file water css out very dirty but .eventually cleaned out until the rater appeared quite clean, ape hose was then allowed to lie 1: the cun on the driveway for about 43 xiinutes and another air sacsp&o taken, This tine it showed a color strength of nearly 2'j r,iars gravis, b'a covered the rutlct opening with several layers of duct filter -suae but ire still jot a reading between CO rard ft*
2* Lre caroled the air passing through one length of hose showing a bad break through the cuter covering exposing the metal x;ire woven into it. 'Tliis showed about 20 gderograme,
3* L'e sampled the air through another Icsy^th of hose and it also showed about 20 Kicrograms,
the hose tooted under items 2 and 3 were sent to. .Or, Titsmillcr via egress, collect.
The length.of hose not tested and the two lengths tested under items 1 and 3 were in good condition and I would not have hesitated to approve them for tank cleaning use. The length of sendee of this hose is not definitely knoxrn but I will try to find cut this week.
Two lengths of hose have been retained by Dob to wait for Instructions for their disposition, This null probably depend on what Hr, litsmillor Tinds and advises.
An addition to the above report and a previous report front George 0Cormoll on a test he rcado, we not; have one from - Don Torsclick,
Last fatui'day, Don tested the hose in use by another tank cleaning con tractor at the Golf Oil Corporation plant in Tiverton. Uiodc Island, le reported a reacting off the scale of our lead-in-air analyser. They were going; to wash the hose by circulating' soapy water with a puxp iron

a tub through the hose and bad: to the tub* It -would then ho thoroiighly riushed with fresh w-ater. At this writing, I do not have a report Iron da on Iiis success in cleansing the hose.
these throe isolated cases cannot bo coincidence and. contaminated Britain the last iw or three weeks*- Also, it does not seen to r.ie that this can be lead we are picking up or wc would have cone sick men after breathing air with the indicated lead concentration for several hours.
I hope v;e can determine rather speedily wliat this is that we .are picking' up and if it is load, some rather prompt steps must be taken zo correct the oituation throughout all lie "ions.
dory truly pours.
