The work was done by two competent Investigators and we should accept their findings as representing current thinking on this problem. The study was made on men In the metropolitan New York area who Install asbestos Insulation. It shows 45 of these workers died from lung or pleural cancer whereas only 6.5 such deaths were expected. This increase in lung cancer was not due to cigarette smoking. The authors also discuss the potential hazard from asbestos exposure to others living and working in the vicinity of asbestos-handling operations. Our asbestos operations have been developed with a view to protecting the workers as much as possible from exposure to the dust. This publication reaffirms the necessity of carefully building health protective measures into plant operations as well as maintaining a continuing program of environmental and personal health superv' :ion.
