John Street, He*.* York City, called upon. - me on Julj* 29, 194-1, with reference to the above entitled claim, which he said was pending be fore the Pennsylvania Workmens1 Compensation Bureau and ashed whether our Medical Department cooperated with gaso line distributors in the matter of claims for alleged lead poisoning. Mr. Oscar Lewis came up at my request and said that we did cooperate and suggested that the Medical Advis or of the Insurance Company write you about the matter, giving you all the pertinent facts with regard to the claim. Yesterday, Mr. Baxter telephoned me and said he had been advised by the Insurance Company's Philadelphia Office that the defense to the claim was not proceeding very satisfactorily, and that they xiranted to know whether one of our engineers in the Philadelphia. District was available to testify as an expert on lead poisoning, as you had advised Mr. U. H. Dull (Manager c-f the Insurance Company's Claim De partment at Philadelphia) that you were unable to d.o so. He also said the neurologist on whose opinion they relied had turned against the defense. I told him that I did not understand any of our engineers, were doctors or qualified to testify as an expert on lead poisoning, and suggested that they take the matter up with you again to see whether you could recommend someone for that purpose. -2 This morning, I discussed the'matter fully with hr. Mebb, who asked me to write you and say that it would be very much appreciated if you could testify, but, in the event that.this is not convenient, we should be greatly obliged if you could arrange for.a member of your group to appear as a witness for the defense.
