I'll get your note into the review process. I have spent a lot of time in the Bears Ears with my young children. I have learned what the region means to our Navajo friends' traditions. And I have seen how local businesses flourish as a result of tourism. But I have also seen tombs robbed and wild arroyos torn up by drilling and other development. If the Bears Ears monument is honored, our children and their children will have a chance to enjoy this extraordinary landscape. But if it is scarred by development or sold to the highest bidder, it is lost from the public trust for good. From President Eisenhower to President Obama, President Bush to President Harding, American leaders have established monuments and Americans value and appreciate them-we vacation in them with our families, we spend money in nearby communities and we take pride in them. Please honor this tradition. Don't trash it. Sincerely, Emily Cousins Seattle, Washington, formerly of Kayenta, Arizona
