The induatry'a concern in regard to the alleged health hasarda atisulated the foraatlon of the Occupational Health and Safety Ccsnlttse of tbs latloaal Znaulatlon Kaaufacturers Aaaoelatlon (XXMA). Aa you know, thia Oooaittaa brought together ell available aedleal reaaarch data on the poaaible atdieal effeete of fibroue gleet and mineral wool. Thu reviewed the deta at our request end advised ia your letter to UNA dated April 3, 1967 that a broadly bated study was needed. The XZMA Board of Directors on Nay 16 , 1967 unaaiaoualy agreed to seek the assistance of the U. t. Public Health Service in initiating a study of the fibrous glees and alneral wool industry with re spect to iif* beslth besards. At the discretion of the U. B. Public Health Service, the steAy ley Include eavirooaaotel, clinical and epideniolcgical investigations. She Board authorised the Occupational Health and Safaty Cenalttae to taka appropriate action with the Public Health Service ia order to
have the above study Initiated as soon as practicable.
In a preliminary seating of tho Health and Safety Coaoittee meeting with you
on June 5, 1967 to discuss the study of the fibroue glees and mineral wool iaduetry, you requested certain employment data concerning those pleats aan-
ufecturiag fibrous glass and/or aiaeral wool. Ve understood this data woald fora 00s basis for considering the feasibility of the industrywide study.
