Lanza of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company has advised us that he would seek the favor of your services in the reading and interpreting of X-ray films which will be made in connection with the physical examinations of the employees of Johns-Manville Corporation at its Manvllle, Hew Jersey Plant. Ve have not heard further from Dr. Lanza, but have received a copy of your letter of February 16th to Dr. H. H. Fellowes in which you request that a fairly hard type of film be used in taking the X-rays and we assume, therefore, that you have seen fit to undertake this work. Ve would be pleased, however, to have you communicate directly with us and advise us of your acceptance of the assignment and we would like to be further advised if the fee of $200.00 tentatively suggested by Dr. Lanza for making these readings will be satisfactory to you. I do not know whether Dr. Lanza informed you of the fact, but we have bad several suits brought against us by former employees alleging pulmonary disorders induced by dusty conditions at the Factory. There is a possibility that other suits may be instituted by the same attorney who represents the plaintiffs in the pending suits. Such being the case, you will readily appreciate that we desire the results of your readings to be held in strictest confidence and that no unnecessary publicity be given to the fact that you are making these readings for us. We are making ah honest effort to ascertain just what the conditions are among our employees and intend to use all reasonable efforts to improve the health of our em ployees and the conditions under which they work, but we wish, if possible, to prevent the results of our efforts being used against us either in the pending suits or in any suits which may be brought against us.
