In order to prove our theory that the toxicity of a heavy SMtal is related to its ability to penetrate Inside of the cell.ve propose to cos^are the morphology of nervous system cultures exposed to a series of SMtals with the hlstochemlcal determination of the metals' absorp tion by nervous tissue in vitro.
Tin, mercury and copper have been chosen for our aeries.Copper is included because of the work of UxMn ( 1956)*. He found that copper, which is one of the most toxic metals tor nervous tissue, is absor bed by myelin sheath and nerve cell nuclei when sections of normal brain are exposed to the Mtal.
