TRANSPORT CANADA REGULATIONS: APPOINTMENT OF AGENTS
As we discussed, recently promulgated Canadian Regulations dealing with the transport of dangerous goads into that country require any company that does not have a place of business in Canada to assign an agent in Canada. That section of the regulation is attached.
There is some question as to the agents scope of responsibility
and liability but it is clear that they are to be a contact point
for the Canadian authorities in the event of a
transportation
incident. Other portions of the regulations dealing with agents are
also attached.
During your visits to Canadian customers would you please determine the following if possible:
1) Their understanding of the agent assignment issue. 2) Suggestions on who to contact about serving as an agent. 3) Effective compliance dates of the regulation. We*ve heard
several "stories11 on what is and isn't effective. 4) A contact at each company to discuss with me other
compliance issues specific to our deliveries to them.
This regulation does not affect all of our products but most industrials and some surfactants are dangerous goods by Canadian definition.
