Subject
EXAMINATION OF LAKE CHARLES CHEMICAL PLANT EFFLUENT WATER BY GCMS-VOA-ANALYTICAL NO. 5649
Results
The following volatile priority pollutants were found:
methylene chloride 1,2 dichloroethane chloroform toluene ethylbenzene benzene 1,1,2 trichloroethane fluorotrichloromethane
5 ppb 5 ppb 2 ppb 2 ppb 1 ppb 0.3 ppb 0.3' ppb 10 ppt
Introduction
The sample was an EPA/CONGCO split taken from Outfall 001 at 0702 on 1/28/81. The sample was properly sealed, packed in ice, and shipped to Ponca City on a chartered airplane. The pollutant determinations were performed on the 29th.
Expe rimenta 1
The sample was run by the purge-and-trap technique on the Finnigan 0WA-30.

Mass Spectrometer Scan 40-250 amu in 4 sec 1000 scans collected.
Approximately 500 ng of each internal standard (as a methanolic solution) was injected into a syringe containing 5 mi of sample. The spiked sam ple was then injected into the purge cell. Discussion Response factors were calculated by running known blends of the pol lutants and internal standards under the same conditions used for the sample. Identification was by a combination of retention time and full spectrum.
