The following is an updated R&D program list arranged by priority. In general, these priorities are as established at the January 18 Business Group meeting.
1. High Priority
a. Increase production rate of 10 lb. asbestos roofing felt at 12 lb./in. minimum CMD tensile strength. Dow SBR latex shows best results, to date.
b. Develop process for grinding or repulping gasketing broke for reuse.
c. Locate toll coater to apply anti-stick and sealant coatings on gasketing, particularly one that can handle 21-23 inch wide rolls.
d. Develop means of running gasketing at .090 inch thickness in order to produce .063 inch material when densified. Manufacturing to obtain vacuum equipment from South Bound Brook to alleviate crushing.
2. Medium Priority
a. Continue development of release coating for Victor, applied on paper machine.
b. Determine whether latex-bound sheet made on paper machine can replace most or all (cement-bound) millboard; i.e, is there a long-term future for millboard line?
c. Resolve edge-wrinkling problem observed on running densified gasketing on calender.
d. Continue investigations into asbestos-free gasketing products.
3. Low Friority
a. Conclude lab formulation work on sulfur-free gasketing for Victor, and make plant trial run.
b. Vrc : gs
Make trial run of low-temperature Lehr roll millboard, if so advised
by Marketing. In lab, indicate asbestos-free Lehr roll formulation
work.
