Mr. Dewey joined National Lead5s accounting department in 1924 and was appointed assis tant comptroller in 1946. He served in the armed forces during World War II, PAUL J. PATER NAMED CHICAGO BRANCH MANAGER Paul J. Pater has been named manager of the Chicago Branch, succeeding Walter P, Carroll. Mr. Pater has been assistant manager of the Chicago Branch since 1944. Mr, Pater joined the Carter White Lead Company in 1916. He became a member of the General Office auditing staff, then comptroller of the Chicago Branch in 1937, RUPPERT APPOINTED ASSISTANT MANAGER, METAL DEPARTMENT Philip W. Ruppert has been appointed assistant manager, metal department, for the Company, He will be located in New York City. Mr. Ruppert has been assistant manager of the Chicago Branch since 1949- He started with the Company in 1929 as an auditor, becoming assistant manager of the American Lead Corpora tion in 1935. Two years later he was transferred to the Chicago Branch. 1r THOMAS f. OVENS, ARCHER D. SARGENT NAMED ASSISTANT COMPTROLLERS Thomas /^Owens and Archer D Sargent have been named.assistant comptrollers of the Company. Mr, Owens joined National Lead in 1934 in the accounting department. In 1947 he became office manager of the General Office and the following year he be came assistant secretary of the Company. He is secretary of the mixed paint and white lead committee, Mr. Sargent continues as comptroller of the Atlantic and Philadelphia branches, to which positions he was named in February of this year. He had been comptroller of the St. Louis Branch since 1939. In 1943 he became assistant manager of the branch and in March of last year he was named to head accounting, credit and purchasing activities for the Southwestern Branch. USS APPOINTED ASSISTANT TREASURER Michael Uss has been appointed assistant treasurer of the Company. Mr, Use joined National Lead in 1942 as an auditor in the General Office and in 1948 he was named office manager, T. J,, MURPHY NAMED ASSISTANT SECRETARY Thomas J, Murphy has been made assistant secretary of the Company. Mr. Murphy, a graduate of Boston College and Georgetown University Law School, was employed in 1947 in the Company secretary's department, handling legal matters. Mr. Millas was appointed sales m ager of the pigment, oil and chemical department in 1948, and in September of t] year became assistant branch manager. SNEDECOR NEW COMPTROLLER FOR TITANIUM ALLOT Frank B. Snedecor has been appointed comptroller of the Titanium Alloy man. ufacturing Division, replacing Malte Ericson, who is now heading accounting and administrative activities at the AEC Feed Materials Production Center near Cin cinnati. Mr. Snedecor joined the Company in 1944 as a General Office auditor. FRANCY NOW ASSISTANT MANAGER OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS Eugene V. Francy has been appointed assistant manager of industrial rela tions. Mr. Francy started his career with the Company at the Sayreville plant of the Titanium Division in 1935= In 1945 he became personnel director there and two years later was appointed manager of industrial relations at the plant. He was transferred to the Company's industrial relations department in New York City last year. PHILADELPHIA BRANCH APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED Raymond H. Lentz has been named general superintendent at the Philadel phia Branch plant, succeeding Valter C. Nevin, who has retired after forty-sevei years of service. Mr. Lentz joined the Company in 1934 at Philadelphia. He became superintendent of the metal department there tiefore being appointed assii tant to the plant superintendent in 1945, after his return from military servici in World War II. Mr. Lentz has been production manager at Philadelphia since 1948. George Hammond has been appointed supervisor of trade sales for the Phil adelphia Branch. Mr. Hammond began his Company employment in 1933 in the paint ing promotion department there. He served in the armed forces during World War II, then joined the sales force in 1945. Oscar Muller has been appointed production supervisor of the oil and resin department at Philadelphia. Mr. Muller joined the Company in 1945 as a paint research chemist in the Brooklyn research laboratories. In 1949 he was placed in charge of the oil and resin laboratory there. BAROID HEADQUARTERS IN HOUSTON HAS OPENING CEREMONY The official opening of the new.Baroid Sales Division general office build ing took place on November 16 in Houston, Texas. Quartered in the new tvo-utorj steel and concrete building are the administrative, research and sales depart ments. The division completed its movement of personnel from Los Angeles in September. Attending from New York were Company president Joseph A. Martino anc other officials. WILLIAM H. MARTIN OF GENERAL ENGINEERING DIES William H. Martin, an engineer with the general engineering department, dii recently. He had been working on the expansion project at the Sayreville plant of the Titanium Division. Mr. Martin, fifty-one years of age, began his Company employment at the St. Louis plant of the Titanium Division in 1945 and was transferred to general en gineering three years later.
