Speed R. R. Speigelhalter M. Sterraon Since 3/19/74, fifteen 8 hour samples for VCM exposure have been taken. The average of all of these samples is 20 ppm. Ten of the samples were on utility operators, and the average of these was 23 ppm. The highest reading was on a utility operator and was 44 ppm. The highest reading on one of the other operators was 32 ppm on the reactor operator, and the lowest reading was 2. 5 ppm on a maintenance mechanic. Nine extra batteries and three extra battery chargers were received. At that time the Calvert City plant had not received any of the extra batteries they had ordered, so three of the batteries were shipped to them. With the extra batteries and chargers it has been possible to get two, 8 hour samples per day. This uses the batteries only three hours per charge. We will try to get four hours per charge from the batteries, and if this is possible it will allow getting three samples per day. M. Stermon stated that they were getting four hours per charge at Calvert City. The samples that have been taken thus far have been for periods ranging from 6 hours and 40 minutes to 8 hours* In all cases the sampler was put on and started in the change room/laboratory building and stopped and taken off in the same building. The person being sampled was never in the PVC plant without the sampler on. If the exposure levels were for 8 full hours in all cases they would be slightly lower than those listed.
