Brian was alerting me to the fact that Nature Magazine had contacted him on the PCB issue. One of the ministries in England has discovered a large bird kill in the Irish Sea. Their investigation shows extremely high levels of PCBs present in the dead birds. We have no way of knowing at this point who conducted the research nor the methods used. However, Brian is investigating this for me. In the meantime, Brian is replying to the inquiry from . Nature Magazine. Their specific questions included who manufactures PCBs, how are they used and what means are being taken for their disposal. I have sent by telex our latest preparedness statement dated October 17. I also asked Brian to emphasize the fact that there are several producers in Europe and the Eastern block countries. He will also alert the Newport plant to this latest inquiry and advise them of our initial clean-up plans aimed at 10 parts per billion.
