Bear Kay t ' Thanks very much indeed for your letter- of June 22, and for the confidential report of the investigations of the Petro leum Board. This report gives extensively useful information, which I am very glad to have. I shall regard the information as strictly confidential. I am also very glad to have a copy of the circular letter sent out by the Shell Company to their various organizations. This letter gives quite straightforward statements of the factors that are to be considered and the problems that are to be met. I think it should be very helpful In bringing about the desired conditions. If you see fit to do so, I should be very glad if you would convey my views on this subject to the proper people. I am Indeed glad they have seen fit to amplify our advice in this matter. Thanks also for the information you have given me on what is to be done in farther following the situation at Ardrossan. I quite agree that what you have decided to do is wise. I should be very much interested in the outcome of further observations. Your other letters have been dealt vith in earlier correspon dence with the single exception of your letter of June 8, on the analytical results obtained by Dodds on material from tank bottoms. We have collected a sizable series of results from a number of different kinds of tankers and barges. I have not had time to study these results, and therefore it would be unwise for me to attempt to comment on the results you have sent me. Just as soon as I can make something out of our results I shall be prepared to see where these fit into the picture. As a matter of fact, I doubt very much if any of us can say very much about the significance of a few individual results.
