Schappell We have received both oral and written reports on the value of Diamond Shamrock "novel" stripping technology for dispersion latex, but have agreed that we should investigate its applicability to Plastisol resin. Information was obtained originally by Dr. Lobo; at his suggestion I have contacted Mr. Jack Porter at the D. S. Evon Research Center. The potential for the system offered by D. S, as it relates to Plastisol stripping is questionable since the operating temperature is 55-60C. Our data suggests that 55C is the maximum temperature the latex can stand without degradation. Mr. Porter recognized this limitation and suggested a laboratory screening of the processing characteristics of our latex. There is no charge for this screening. To reiterate, the intent of the tests would be to evaluate the applicability of the technology only. Five -- gallon latex samples of one or more resin types would be"stripped" in the laboratory equipment. If the feasibility of the method is established it would be necessary to enter into a secrecy and/or licensing agreement before proceeding further. Diamond does not have test facilities to process the quantities of latex we require to properly evaluate impact on resin quality (according to R. S. Miller - 50 gallons of stripped latex). Such a test would be arranged after demonstration of feasibility and execution of the secrecy agreement. It would be conducted in one of their production facilities and could be witnessed by Tenneco personnel. I have arranged for the laboratory tests to be run as soon as samples can be shipped. Since Plastisol operations are back on stream, we should be at normal production by at least Monday, August 16. Samples from two resin types can probably be drawn and transmitted Monday. I have asked Mr. Schappell to check on shipping arrangements including: use of air freight, problems associated with the shipment of VCM containing material, etc. / rj J. P.
