I can teli you that I nave- never kept a diary and that I must depend, to some extent, on my memory lor aetaiis - details 'which do not seen to me to bo of importance - el >;f-velo:ii'iei.is over c years. .s you know, ;;o douot, T retiree iron the directorship of tno Laboratory in 1364, savin.: founded it ana having ciirecceu
its activities untx i retirement.
It occurs to me, in view of the recent abrunt withdrawal of the U.C. Federal Government from the financial support'of certain of the activities of the Laboratory, that I might make available to the University authorities, the i-..*:U3 hut" -i.at _ir.o, wnich we coveioreu at the Leginnin;, cl oia- wort, t.nu enployed in the initial oeriod of tr.e existence of the Laboratory (from 1529-30
o 1964). 7. hajvcn to believe that there is a principle here wnich is we-il
worth considering for the future.
With this and other ideas in miuu, I should be glau to tain with you. At present, I have no car and do not drive, having suffered some physical disability in recent years, but I continue to work o.aily in my office in the laboratory (boom 104), and if it is not too inconvenient for you, I would be glad to nave you visit me.
