Owens-Corning Cadwalader, 'Jickershan and Tafm NIMA The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the alleged health hazards of fibrous glass as it relates to duct liners and duct systems, ana to evolve a program to combat these alleged health hazards. J. M. Barnhart reviewed (a) "Report of the Proceedings of the Twenty-First Convention of the International Association of Hear ar.d Frost Insulators .,and Asbestos Workers", held at Chicago, 111 September 5-7, -967, (b) Dr. I. J. Selikoff's testimony before the House Select Labor Committee, and (c) a legal case in Charleston, West Va., involving the misapplica tion of a duct wrap (it was used to line a sheet metal duct). John Boyer reported on the legal aspects involved in cases of product disparagment and negligence actions. The opinion was expressed that the effects of publicity on alleged health hazards of industry products should be a matter of most serious concern to all members. It was agreed that the following steps should be taken: 1. Develop a product and installation standard for duct liner. PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT iM'CCOOCH 2 2. Evaluate and publicize duct liner installationc that are in ex istence throughout the country, including union installed, and mechanical contractor installed jobs. 3. Obtain an air analysis of existing duct liner systems (Amount, size, distribution of fiber, etc.) 4. Educate SMACIIA, sheet metal shops, and SMWIA with respect to proper installation techniques. 5.
