RE: PFAS: IOGP Europe request for a meeting
Dear
Thank you for your email. We have noticed that the Oil and Gas Producers Association (IOGP) contributed to the consultation organized by the European Chemicals Agency with respect to the restriction dossier as submitted by Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. We highly appreciate your active participation. ECHA will carefully assess all information received during this consultation. ECHA communicated that they will discuss the petroleum and mining industry in the next plenary meetings of the Scientific Committees (September 2024). I suggest contacting the ECHA secretariat regarding the possibility to attend this meetings as stakeholder observer (M@echa.europa.eu ; Wecha.europa.eu ).
Once the opinion of ECHA's scientific committees is available, a meeting with IOGP, could be useful to address potential remaining concerns. Finally, I would like to underline that the dossier submitted by the five national authorities is subject to the current REACH rules, which do not include any reference to 'essential uses'. Nonetheless, under the current REACH, derogations from restrictions can be granted based on the assessment of risk, including emissions, availability of alternatives and socio-economic impacts.
Kind regards,
European Commission DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Urit F.1 - REACH
