Certainly X would not presume to suggest that you attempt to handle this without consultation with legal counsel (Mr. Warne), and I believe that he would think it advisable in any case to bring it to the attention of Mr. Tully and especially with Dr. Douglas Warren, both of the Canadian Company, before taking any action. Dr. Warren, with Mr. Tully, have been in contact with the health authorities in the Canadian provinces and are in better position, X think, to deal with then than anyone else would be. As to the article and the observations, both are trivial, except insofar as they say achieve local significance. It is evident that Mr. Dolavault has Jittle or no grasp of the matter. lie seems to believe that he has made an important and original discovery. I would not treat him with such disrespect or lack of courtesy as would arouse his antagonism, but X would, x think, call his attention to the fact that corresponding observations (at least qualitatively corresponding) have been made in a number of countries in the last thirty years, and that the results are not being regarded with apprehension. Some interest in his ideas might be expressed. In other words, if a letter is written in reply, it should be entirely innocuous but not too obviously so. Just what is behind his letter is not clear to me, and if this point could be clarified without too much of a show of Interest or concern it might be advantageous.
