N2803-2 18.8 8upplied by tho sponsor. The test was performed under 8tatic condition8 with five concentration8 of test substance and a dilution water control at a temperature of 21.6 to 22.0.C. The dilution water wan filtered deionized water collected at Marblehead, Hassachusett8 and adjusted to a hardness of 40 mg/L as CaCO,. Aeration was initiated at 72 hours to maintain dissolved oxygen concentrations above an acceptab1.e level. Nsminal concentrations of N2803-2 were 0 (control), 160, 250, 400, 630, and 1,000 mg/L. Fathead minnow3 used in the test: were procured from a commercial supplier and acclimated to test conditions at T.R. Wilbur1 Laboratories. After 96 hours of exposurm the control fish had an average wet weight (blotted dry) of 0.36 g and an average tota.1 length of 34.9 m. All fish were i n good condition at the beginning of the study. Exposure of fathead minnows to the test substance resulted in A 96 hour median lethal concentration (LC50) of 960 mg/L N2803-2, with a 95% confidence interval of 830 to >1,000 mg/L8. The 96 hour no observed effect concentration (NOPIC) is 630 mg/L. "8ST SUBSTAWS: The sample of N2803-2 (T.R. wilbury Laboratoriea fi~mpleNumber 529) was delivered to T.R. Wilbury Laboratorios on August 29, 1995 in a 5 gallon metal CAD within a Cardboard box At ambient t.emperature. The test substance was contained in an approximately 150 d plastic jar. The attached label included the following information: -N2803-2, s. Beach, 2- JE-09, (612) 118-7452, 8/22/95'. N2803-2 (a clear liquid) was supplied by 31 Company, st Paul, ninnesota. Prior to use the test substance was storod in the dark at room temperature. Test Substance stock solutions were formulated in dilution water without the use of a solvent. The test aubstance wan aaaumed to have a purity of 100% active ingredient and to be stable under storage and tenting conditions. Unused test subntance will be returned to the sponsor. , DILUTIOB WATER: Water used for acclimation of test organisms and for all toxicity testing was deionized water collected at T.R. Wflbury Laboratories in Marblehead, mssachusetts. Water was adjusted to a iaardnebs of 40-48 mg/L AS CACO, and stored in 500-gallon polyethylene tanks where it WAS aerated and continuously passed through a particle filter, ultraviolet sterilizer, and activated carbon. Results of chemical analysis of a representative sample of water are presented in Table 1. Juvenile fathead minnows, Pixnephales promelar, employed as test organism were from a ringlo source and wero procured from Aquatic Biosyatems, rortcollins, Colorado onAugust10, 1995. During acclimation fiah were fed a dry comercia1 food (Trtra nine Staple mod, Lot I T n O 5 ) daily except during the 48 hours immediately preceding the test. ?iah were not fed during the teat. At the conclunion of thm k a t the control finh had an average total length of 34.9 mm and an averago wot weight of 0.36 g (loading during the definitive toxicity test waa 0.24 g/L). TOIICITI TESTIlDOl A static screening test was conducted from August 18 to 22, 1995 with five concentration# of test aubatance and a dil.ution water control. Nominal concentrations of N2803-2 were 0.10, 1.0, 10, 100, and 1,000 mg,L. After 96 hours of exposure there was 1008 survival in the control and at 0.10, 1.0, 10, and 100 mg/L, and 0% survival at 1,000 mg/L. The definitive toxicity test was performed from September 8 to 12, 1995, according to T.R. Wilbury Protocol 888-TB (Acute Toxicity of U2803-2 To The lathead BLhnow, Pfmephales p r o m e l a s ) . The protocol, which was signed by the atudy director on August 16, 1995, is based on procedures of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1993). A of the test ayntem is preeented in Table 2. The test was conducted at a target temperature of 22 t 2% with five concentrations of test substance and a dilution water control. Nominal concentrations of the test substance were: 0 mg/L (control), 160, 250, 400, 630, and 1,000 mg/L. Appropriate amounts of test wbstance were added directly to dilution water in test vessels to formulate test media without the use of a solvent. Twenty fatheadminnows were indiscriminately and equally distributed among t w o r e p l i c a t o m of each t r e a t m e n t . The t e n t wam performed in 20 liter glasa aquaria that contained 15 litera of feat aolution (water depth waa approxhately 18 a).Test veseela were randomly arranged in a water bath during tho 96 hour test (a random numbera table wan used to select tho location of each vessel) and they were loorely covered. A 16 hour light and 9 hour dark photoperiod with a 15 minute traneition period was automatically maintained with cwl-white fluoreacent light. that provided a light intensity of 25 footcandlea. Computer methods (Stephan, 1983) were used to calculate the median lethal concentrations (LCSOS). All calculations were performed by the author using nominal concentrations of test substance and the number of live fathead minnows.
