The a c c i d e n t t o o k p l a c e in December 19*4-0. I n a t t e m p t i n g t o s ip h o n g a s o l i n e from a t a n k , I c o m p l e t e l y f i l l e d my l u n g s w i t h fethyl g a s o l i n e vapor b e c a u s e t h e end o f th e tu b e h a d n o t r e a c h e d down to t h e l i q u i d . The e f f e c t was s i m i l a r to s u f f o c a t i o n s i n c e a l l oxygen was e x h a u s t e d form my l u n g s a n d i t was n e c e s s a r y t o u s e oxygen t o r e v i v e me. U n til th at time I had never had any illn e s s o ther than the usual childhood diseases. B e g i n n i n g i n A ugust 19*4-1, I h a v e e x p e r i e n c e d r e c u r r e n t a t t a c k s of g re a te r or le s s e r s e v e r ity a t in te r v a ls of a few days to s ix months. R e c e n tly th e y have been more se v ere and more fre q u e n t and a r e a s s o c i a t e d w i t h s h a r p p a i n s i n t h e c e n t e r o f my c h e s t . These a tta c k s u su ally occur a t night and cause e r r a tic h e a rt beats sometimes rap id , sometimes very slow and lab o rin g . In g eneral, I fe e l much th e same a s I d id w h ile p a s s i n g o u t from th e gas fumes. I f e e l weak and d iz z y b u t have n v e r f a i n t e d . The a t t a c k s u s u a l l y l a s t 15 to 20 m inutes and a re sometimes a sso c ia te d w ith v io le n t shaking as i f in a c h ill. When a n a t t a c k i s o v e r I f e e l n o rm al a n d I h a v e no a f t e r e f f e c t s th e n ex t day. B u t, I do have f r e q u e n t s h a rp p a in s o f s h o r t d u r a t i o n i n the middle chest during t i e day. Army d o c t o r s a r e a t a l o s s to e x p l a i n t h e c a u s e o f t h e s e a t t a c k s . They h a v e g i v e n me 3 . K . G . , blood, urine, and X-ray te s ts , but have found everything normal. I f y o u h a v e a n y c a s e h i s t o r i e s w hich p a r a l l e l i n a n y way my e x p e r i e n c e , I w i l l b e v e r y g r a t e f u l i f y o u can a d v i s e me a s to what can be done.
