Statement on the potential PFAS ban Date: 22 September 2023 Would ARBURG be affected by the potential PFAS ban? Yes, like all machine manufacturers, we would be affected by a PFAS ban. The PFAS group includes around 10,000 chemical elements and compounds from which plastics such as PTFE are formed. Components made of fluoropolymers, such as seals and lubricants, are used in all plastics processing machines. Could these be replaced by components made from alternative materials? A switch to alternative materials would not be able to be achieved overnight. The special properties of fluoropolymers, such as chemical and heat resistance, low frictional resistance and high wear resistance, make the selection and use of alternatives a major challenge. New materials will have to undergo very intensive and lengthy testing in advance to ensure that there is no loss of quality. How is ARBURG preparing for a potential PFAS ban? We have been working very hard on this issue for some time now and are, for example, upgrading our testing and analysis facilities in order to be able to test alternative materials as early as possible. We have created a task force especially for dealing with seals and lubricants, are in close contact with our seal suppliers and are also bringing our lubricant suppliers on board.
