On June ID, 19"" , Messrs. 0. N . James. ?. Havriila. and the writer investigated employee exposure to airoorne~asbestos fibers m Department "640. The results of this investigation are listed on the attached data sheet opposite the correspond ing job de sc ri pt i o n . Note that both the peak exposure levels and the eight hour time-weighted average exposure levels were found to be well below their respective CSKA limits.
At the time of this investigation, the use of the small celt sander m the Irak Laboratory for grinding and finishing asoestos-cased friction materials was brought to cur attention Industrial Hygiene recommends that this belt sander be equippec with local exhaust ventilation. A flex duct serviced by the existing dust collector should provide adequate control of any asoestos fibers generated at this work station.
