BORGEN MAINTENANCE g SERVICES MANAGER Master and Chief Engineer EXXON LEXINGTON c/o Office June 27, 1978 EXXON LEXINGTON Shipyard Period Gentlemen: The EXXON LEXINGTON is scheduled to enter Newport News Shipyard on or about August 1, 1978. The U. S. Coast Guard Biennial Inspection, ABS Survey, Drydocking and other specified repairs and betterments will be accomplished at this time. We are attaching a copy of the specifications describing the work which we plan to do. Please review these specifications, which you should be familiar with, and promptly advise the Repair Inspector of any omissions of necessary repair work. We suggest that you conduct the Coast Guard Inspection without any unnecessary delays. Our primary objective is to maintain the EXXON LEXINGTON in operational readiness while giving due consideration to minimizing the cost of the repairs and the out-of service time incurred. This objective can be achieved with the mutual cooperation of the ship's officers and the Repair Inspector in attendance. We have evaluated the repair specifications for the forthcoming yard period, and it is expected to take not more than thirtyfive calendar (35) days to complete the work. As in the past, extra items should be minimized and should be submitted only through the Repair Inspector. To achieve a smooth work flow and to minimize time in the yard, you are requested to do your \ utmost to support and aid the Repair Inspector in making inspections on all re pairs to assure all items are completed and closed in good order. Near the end of the repair period, all preparations should be made in order to expedite plant start up and other necessary preparations for getting underway. Because of the expected length of the repair period, some reduction in the requested number of personnel is probable. However, we will wait for your proposed work schedule before making a final decision. During the course of the overhaul, you are to maintain a detailed list of work actually accomplished by vessel personnel. This list is to be forwarded to the office after shipyard repairs have been completed. Please include in this letter your thoughts on the quality of shipyard repair work. The Repair Inspector acting in behalf of you and the Repair Section will be Mr. W. A. Ingham, Jr. He is prepared to do his utmost to provide you with his talent and cooperation to ensure a successful overhaul in the general interest of the Company.
