Carroll was elected a vice-president of the Company at the Meet ing of the Board of Directors yesterday, fie is a director of the Company, manager of both the Company* 8 metal department and the Chicago Branch. Hr. Carroll started his career with the Company in 1910 as an assistant to the white lead sales manager of the Chicago Branch. Following service overseas in World War I, he entered the metal department of the branch in 1919 and seven years later was made metal sales manager. He was named assistant manager of the Chicago Branch in 1938 and manager in 19l*l He became a Company director in 19U3 and manager of the metal department on January 1 of this year. GARESCHE APPOINTED TO HEAD RESEARCH CONTROL COMMITTEE C. F. Garesche has been named chairman of the newly-formed research con trol committee of the Company. This committee will act as the liaison body be tween the technical work, under the direction of Alex Stewart, and Company manage ment. Other members are D. A. Merson and Harry C. Wildner, vice-presidents and directors, Mr. Garesche continues as a vice-president, director, and member of the Executive Committee of National Lead Company. ROBERTSON NAMED GEN. MANAGER, REID MANAGES OF TITANIUM DIVISION D. W. Robertson has been appointed general manager of the Titanium Division, succeeding C. F. Garesche. Joseph H. Reid is the new division manager. Mr. Robertson joined the Company in October 1926 in a sales capacity for Titanium Pigment Company, Inc. As general sales engineer he was made head of Titanium's paint development laboratory in 1933. He was elected a vice--president and director of Titanium Pigment Corporation in 1938 and manager of the Titanium Division in 19l*7. Mr. Reid entered the Company's employ in 1927 at the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Company, fie went with the Baroid Sales Division in 1936, where he be came production manager. Hr, Reid was transferred to the general office in New York in 19Ul and in 19l*7 was made chairman of the mining committee, which directs the operation of the Company's mining properties. In December of the same year he became an assistant manager of the Titanium Division. He is a director of the Titanium Pigment Corporation. Y*' CHANGES ANNOUNCED IN ST. LOUIS S & R DIVISION Four executive changes have been announced in the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Division. Gloyd M. Wiles has been appointed division manager, succeeding Jean McCallum, who retires on Bay 1. Mr. Wiles continues as chairman of the Company's mining committee. He joined the Company in 19l*2, in charge of mining and min ing oper ations of the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Company. He began his Company career in 19h2 as an engineer and became successively a mine foreman and general mine foreman. In September 19l*l* he was appointed assistant superintendent in charge of the Tri-State mines and in Decem ber 191*8 became general superintendent of the Baxter Springs, Kansas, operations. A. J. lahn has been appointed plant manager of the division* s Fredericktown operation. He joined the Company in 19bU as general superintendent at Frederick town. Hr. Tahn is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. JEAH W CALLUH RETIRES Jean McCallum, manager of the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Division, will retire on May 1. Mr. McCallum began his Company career in 1918 and in 1927 was appointed smelter superintendent of the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Company^ Collins-; ville, Illinois plant. He was transferred the next year to research and develop ment work for the Titanium Pigment Company in St. Louis. He served as research engineer for the St. Louis Lead and Oil Works from 1931* to 1937, when he was made superintendent. He was appointed plant manager in the same year. In 19l*l he was appointed manager of the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Division and in 19l*7 general manager of the Texas Mining and Smelting Division, continuing as manager of St. Louis Smelting and Refining. COPPERSMITH TO SUPERVISE ATLANTIC BRANCH PIGMENT PRODUCTION Fred M. Coppersmith has been named to supervise the pigment production activities of the Atlantic Branch. Previously he had been superintendent of the Bradley plant of the,Atlantic Branch. He was employed in 1933 as a chemist at the Bradley Works and passed successively through the positions of assistant foreman in 193U, foreman in 1937, assistant superintendent in 1939 and was appointed superintendent of that plant in 19l*3. EDWARDS IS NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF BRADLEY PLANT George Edwards has been appointed superintendent of the Bradley plant of the Atlantic Branch, effective April 15, succeeding Fred M, Coppersmith. Mr. Edwards came to National Lead in March 191*6 after two years of naval service. Previous to his naval service he had been with Oliver United Filters Co. Mr. Edwards was appointed assistant superintendent of the Bradley plant in September 191*6, holding that position until the present. ORSINO NOW ASSISTING ALEI STEWART Dr. Joseph A. Orsino, who has been in Los Angeles on behalf of the Company for the past two years, will in the future make his headquarters in New York, working under the direction of Alex Stewart, director of research for the Com pany.
