Of the 671 workers in the study, 33 were actively employed, 198 were retired, 157 were no longer associated with Monsanto, and 283 were deceased as of 12/31/90. 2. I am still having difficulty contacting Ken Rosenman at Michigan State University about using the Internal Revenue Service as a resource for contacting former Monsanto employees. After playing a few days of "telephone tag," he is now on vacation until August 27. I will try to reach him when he returns. I am also trying to contact the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA) to see if we can use their mailing list for our workers who are 65 years of age or older. I will not use either source without discussing the pros and cons again with you. 3. I am still concerned about giving the union the names of the workers who were in the PDCB study to search for current addresses. This may be interpreted as a violation of confidentiality and may jeopardize the agreements we currently have with some of the state vital statistics departments. However, there may be an alternative approach. Would the union allow us to review their address list without releasing the names of the workers who were in the study? 4. I have sent you (via intercampus mail) a copy of the worker notification letter that was written by Dow Chemical to inform their employees about the NIOSH dioxin study. The copy is a photocopy of a FAX, but is still legible. 5. I spoke with Tom Blank at Krummrich, and they plan to inform the union of the PDCB study results tomorrow.
