JUDICIARY FOREIGN RELATIONS RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
June 2, 2025
The Honorable Sean Duffy Secretary of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590
Dear Secretary Duffy:
I write to express my support for the nomination of J. Bruce Bugg, Jr. to serve on the U.S. Department of Transportation Advisory Board. Chairman Bugg currently serves as Chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission, the five-member body responsible for overseeing the transportation vision and priorities of the State of Texas, one of the nation's largest and fastestgrowing states.
Chairman Bugg's expertise would serve as a valuable addition to the Advisory Board. In his role at the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), he oversees the strategic direction of statewide transportation initiatives, including the coordination of federal and state funding for major infrastructure projects, and guides collaboration among regional, state, and federal partners to deliver effective multimodal transportation solutions. His experience at TXDOT, and his previous role at the Texas Economic Development Corporation, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and locally responsive solutions would serve the Advisory Board's goals of modernizing infrastructure, reducing government red tape, and fostering public-private partnerships.
Texas manages over 300,000 miles of roadway, 56,000 bridges, 10,500 miles of rail, nearly 300 general aviation airports, while also supporting 32 ports of entry and 35 Foreign Trade Zones.Ell Chairman Bugg's insight and leadership in Texas gives him a key vantage point to speak on the challenges of managing and modernizing large-scale transportation systems. The Advisory Board would benefit from having Chairman Bugg as a member, and I fully support his nomination.
Sincerely,
Ted Cruz United States Senator
