August 8, 1963 Dr, Robert A, Kehoe University of Cincinnati The Kettering Laboratory College of Medicine - Eden Avenue Cincinnati 19, Ohio Dear Dr, Kehoe: Upon receipt of your letter of August 6th, I compared my letters of August 1st and July 2nd to you as suggested and must accept full re sponsibility for the confusion. Actually, the letter received from the Assistant General Manager at Tsumeb, which should have been quoted in our letter to you of August 1st, is as follows: "It is our intention to select two men from the Germanium Plant, two men from the Copper Smelter and four men from the Lead Smelter when it goes into operation, for thorough checking of lead intake by blood analyses. There will, therefore, be eight men under close observation and Dr, Kehoe should supply sufficient containers for the required specimens for these eight men. We wish also to do our own analyses here so that the results obtained by Dr, Kehoe can be compared with ours and if we need the special containers for our work, then they should also be supplied. We do not know for sure how often it will be necessary to take the samples and do the analyses but are thinking of once per month initially. If Dr. Kehoe agrees with this, so there will be no delay in the carrying out of the programme, we should have sufficient containers so that the specimens can be sent once per month, I am sure that Dr, Kehoe realises that we only wish to carry out this checking procedure until he and we are assured of our Labora tory^ ability to put out reliable work and as soon as that is obtained, we do not intend to send further samples to the United States for analysis. We should receive a write-up on the technique and equipment re quired as soon as possible so that if any special equipment is necessary from overseas, the orders can be placed immediately, I, therefore, hope you can get things moving with Dr, Kehoe as fast as possible." Dr* R.
