OLD BlU""S*\INESS HCN Emergency Lights Riddle discussed tentative proposal but he plans to meet with the HCN Safety Team before presenting the final proposal to SHAC. NEW BUSINESS Eyebaths Chuck Anders expressed a concern about the single eyebath in those areas where chemicals are the type that could cause irreversible damage to the eyes. He felt that the double eyebath would afford much greater protection in that both eyes would be washed simultaneously. Action: The Material Handling department made an audit on their eyebaths and it was determined that 29_aut of the 80 eyebaths should receive a new double evebath station. YsHAC will further pursue the plant direction in this area. * Chlorine Storage Chuck also expressed a concern about the maintenance of the chlorine valves and equipment at the chlorine tanks and loading spot. He recommended that we have a loss prevention review to ensure added safety emphasis is given to this area. Action: We plan to discontinue storage of chlorine in these tanks and only use one ton chlorine cylinders throughout the plant. a-t , -LPK'Us*<( ta/vc c&l Manl ifts 2 *f-'B3 CT-S' 7 *&**< Mike Burkhalter expressed a concern about the condition of the manlifts in the plant especially those owned by Monsanto (ML-1, M-2, and ML-3). Corrosion Mike asked if the PETS department checks on super-hazardous lines inside the unit? Should a super-hazardous line inspection program be implemented? Action: B. J. Sanders will review and make recommendation. Fire Monitors During a tarp fire north of CT-4, Mike Burkhalter reported a fire monitor in the northeast part of Dept. 51 failed to operate. Who is responsible for main taining these? Action: The unit has the responsibility to ensure the monitors function properly and the Fire Department checks every three months for proper operation. This will be an emphasis area on the second quarter inspection. Emergency Drills Jake Linkey expressed a concern that during a mock drill that two bicyclists were almost hit by a fire truck that was running without lights or siren. Action: This was discussed with Fire Chief and will be reviewed with the Fire Crew. Contractor Safety Jake also brought up a concern that on the north ditch job, the Boggs & Tatum contractor was using rebar for scaffold braces. Action: The job was stopped and the scaffold was supported before work con tinued. Asbestos Jar Donnie Lonsford expressed a need for washout station at the asbestos dumpster by the old phenol tank and asked if a dumpster could be moved. Action: The dumpster has been moved as well as a washout station provided in the old 35 area. There is also concern that the asbestos warning decal or the painted asbestos warning sign is left on the sheet metal jacketing when it is disposed of in an open top dumpsters. What should be done to eliminate this problem? Action: This will be discussed further at the next meeting. Unit Maintenance Dan Nelson expressed a problem with maintenance pipefitters working without checking with the chief in Lactic Acid. They had pulled a methanol relief valve without first checking with the chief to begin work. Action: This was reviewed with the Zone Supt. (Paul Bailey). GENERAL COMMENTS The Safety and Housekeeping Inspections were discussed and the HSC recommends that every other inspection be truly unannounced without any advanced warning.
