Mr G P Lauhus Mr F J Prescott Mr W A Jones h H ROBERTSON (UK) LIMITED I am pleased to report that I had a very full meeting this morning with the following personnel at H H Robertson (UK) Limited, Ellesmere Port: Mr H Benson (Director) Mr J Waddell (Works Director) Mr M McCarthy (Chief Buyer) Mr H Gee (Assistant Buyer) on the subject of their requirements fear the rest of 1980. Unfortunately, their business is so poor at the present time with the UK business continuing in a depressed state and their Middle Eastern business reduced to a very low level over the last 4-5 months. They are, in fact, only using their equipment an a 5-day (one shift) basis during a 4-week work month. As a result they continue to hold a large amount of Turner's material, together with GAF regular material vrtuch was shipped into them last September. Against present usage this should last them for the whole of 1980, and unless there is a turn around in trading they do not anticipate purchasing more asbestos paper until 1981. In view of this they considered it unfair to expect GAF/Erie to con tinue with trials with silicate-treated paper, and we should be glad, therefore, if you would hold in abeyance any further tests until vre inform you accordingly. If the business at this end should pick up then Robertson's would try to give us three months notice of this fact. Meanwhile, however, they would like to receive your comments relating to the Report submitted. It has been mentioned in past correspondence that because of the asbestos "scare", Robertson's have also been working to phase out asbestos-based end product vhich they call Galbestos in favour of epoxy-coated metal called Versacor. Originally this was to take place over a period of five years and they expected to be ccnpletely switched over to Versacor by 1985. In fact, right now, they have both plants working side by side and, rather than wait for 1985, they might phase out the Galbestos over the next 1-2 years, and if this was to take place then there would be no demand whatsoever for asbestos paper. ___ RECEIVED MICH09174 MW 30 *80 rofu PRIUTtO IN U.J.A. Polection 843 (100% active basis) and l8 g. Elvacet 84-1100. The abrasion resistance of these two were only moderately superior to the control. Development of a measure of dustiness progressed to the point where a Calsilite sample was sawed in a dry box while the air was sampled with a Rotorod sample. The sampling bars were then examined microscopically. The method is tedious and will be described to Mr. Canfield. In time it gould be a successful approach to measuring dusting, but it will always remain a time-consuming procedure. MICH09191
