Enclosed are new exterior latex primer formulations based on
TANBLOKTM TP-4
stain blocking agent, which you have recently requested* After six months, our subtropical weathering tests show TANBLOK at the recommended level to be equal to basic lead silicate as a stain blocking agent# Yet, TANBLOK does the job for 12 to 15 cents per gallon, about half the cost of lead. Our price list is attached.
Free 1-pound samples of TANBLOK, as well as 1-quart samples of factorymade primer are available by mailing the enclosed postcard or by contacting:

DIRECTIONS
|1) The formulations presented horoin hove been developed cxiKjrimentAl ly. The tyj>es and amounts of ingredients to be used, the addition sequence, and other instruc tions must be followed exactly to obtain a stable produet having ilm properties listed belov; each formula tion. liEVIJt add TAMhtOK1^ Tr-4 either at the end of the dispersion, or at the end of the completed batch; such addition will cause immediate flocculation.
(2) It is impossible foe us to evaluate the many brands or similar products that conceivably might bo subctituled for those listed in those formulations. If problems uiiso from substitutions, please feel free to request technical service from us,
(3) The level of TANBLOK TP-4 recorrononded in these form ulations has been established oxpcriinontuil 1 yr higher levels aro NOT recommended as package stability and film formation may be impaired. Thus more TANBLOK may give Jess stain blocking. "A little TANULOK goes a long way!"
(4) Mon-ionic surfactants are recommended (as shown) in the formulations since those give greater package stability, particularly at elevated temperatures.
(5) For highly ctaining woods, two coats of primer are recommended.
CAUTION
(6) Six mouths of exposure testing in Florida show t a n u n o k to be equal to basic lead silicate as a stain blocking agent, in exterior latex primers. However, you should make and be guided by your own tests in determining the suitability of the products, formul ations, and methods mentioned herein. This informa tion is offered in good faith but without any war ranty, express or implied.
(7) The addition of TAMBUKC TP-4 to emulsion paints wiLl cause a slight lowering of the pH. To guard againsL corrosion,1ined cans are recommended and ftaybo 60 has been introduced into the formulations.
