January 5, 1930 M r . A. E. Kittnacht. Dear Mr, Tiittnacht: I have read the clipping in regard to the use of crank case oil after it is drained from automo biles. I do not believe that there is anything for us to do about this prcbleia. Such figures as we have in dicate that the lead content of crank case oil is low, and I doubt if Its effect when used on the outside of the hogs would be anything to complain about or take notice of. The oil la not edible in the sense that it has any food value, and it would not be used as food therefore. The only way the animals would ingest any of it would be by licking if off their skin. In the event that they do swallovf some of it in this .fashion the absorption of lead would certainly be very minute.
