He asked for the members support and participation and a joint effort to eliminate unsafe acts and injuries. OLD BUSINESS Unit/Craft Safety Representative Training A question had been previously raised as to the possibility of training the representatives prior to starting the assignment or immediately after assign ment rather than conducting training about mid-way through the term, as is the current practice. Action Discussed with PMSB. SHAC has been asked by the PMSB to investigate the problem and make recommendations at the next PMSB meeting. One possible consideration is extending the length of the term from six months to a year. The Hourly Safety Committee will be asked for their input at the next HSC meeting. This was discussed with the Committee again and the consensus was that they prefer the six month terms with the training to be done prior to members taking office. Asbestos Handling When only Insulators were handling asbestos, used material was bagged and the bags immediately removed via pickup truck to a special dumpster. Now that other crafts are handling asbestos, the material is bagged, but not immedi ately picked up. In fact, some bags remain at the truck stops for several weeks, resulting in badly detriorated bags and some asbestos spillage. sc 12275 LAIVI013472 Page 2 Action This problem has been turned over to Maintenance and they are working up an action plan for a solution. NEW BUSINESS There was concern expressed that no action had been taken yet on the asbestos pick-up concern of last month. The safety of the dismantling of the idle pipeline near Dept. 48/56 was discussed. James Baker said that he would pursue this with the Safety Inspector following the job. A dumpster in Dept. 44 is labeled "For Asbestos Only"; however, it is being used for everything but asbestos. Bubba Bean was to discuss this with the unit supervision.
